Oliver James was born the youngest son of John of Virginia, and Ida E Clarkson of New York. [census 1][census 2] Not much is known about Oliver's parents other than their names, from several documents, and approximate date of births from federal census records.

Birth

Oliver Haswell James was born 14 Nov 1903, probably somewhere in New York.

Oliver's place of birth is somewhat a mystery. [note 1]<The 1920 census lists New York city, and on 1 Dec 1936, he listed his place of birth as Yonkers, NY. A vital records request yielded no record of his birth, and his death certificate lists "Can not be learned".

Brothers and Sisters

The family information varries between census records, however, it appears Oliver had at least two siblings:

  • John James (2) - probably an older brother
  • Alvin James - the name, sex, and date of birth of this individual varries and may not be correct. The name is very difficult to read and may not be correct.

Marrage

Oliver married Rachel Winch Edwards 23 Jun 1923, MA. Rachel (daughter of William Hadley Edwards and Florence Adelaide Whiton) was born 28 Nov 1896, Church Street, Watertown, Massachusetts, United States.

Children

To the best of our knowledge Oliver had only one child. William Oliver James was born 29 Mar 1924, Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts.

Divorce

According to statements by Oliver James couple never lived togeather. The devorce decree was finalized 5 Jun 1929. Copy of divorce proceedings.

Life After the Divorce

According to the 1930 census, Oliver was living with his famly in Sommerville, Middlesex County, Ma, with mother Ida, brother, John, and sister Alviest (name difficult to read).

Death

Oliver died 22 Dec 1975 in Somerville Hispital 230 Highland Ave. Somerville, Ma.

His will and probate records mention:

When the will was executed, the estate passed to Amanda.
